"The matter is serious . . . the style impeccable": On Catherine Breese Davis

3/4/2016

The new issue of The Weekly Standard is out, with my review of a new book of selected poems by, and critical essays on, Catherine Breese Davis.  Davis is rightly called a "forgotten master" of the poetic art, a student of Allen Tate's, Yvor Winters's, and Donald Justice's who was too scattered in life to collect together her precise, austere, and enduring poems.  Justice -- by which I mean, the wish of Donald Justice -- is finally being done with the publication of this little volume.  Click the picture to read the review!
